Jacobson Warehouse Company Inc. significantly increased the amount of space it leases in La Porte — becoming the latest in a string of third party logistics to expand near the Port of Houston.
Jacobson, which stores and transports goods for large corporations, leased a 210,000-square-foot building at 11503 Highway 225. The company also renewed a lease for an 80,000-square-foot building at 11427 Highway 225.
Both buildings are owned by Pennsylvania-based Liberty Property Trust (NYSE:LRY) and are located in Williamsport Distribution Center.
Jacobson already occupied a 200,000-square-foot building at 11505 State Highway 225 in Williamsport Distribution Center that’s owned byFirst Industrial Realty Trust Inc.
Jacobson was represented in the recent lease transactions by three CB Richard Ellis Inc. brokers— Gray Gilbert and Bill Rudolf in the Houston office and Brian Fogelberg in Minneapolis, Minn.
The landlord was represented by Hans Brindley of Liberty Property.
Joe Trinkle, vice president and city manager in Houston for Liberty Property, says rail service will not be added to the building on 11503 Highway 225 as previously planned because Jacobson does not need it.
Clayton Fahey, a vice president of operations with Jacobson, said in a prepared statement that the company wanted to increase its Houston presence.
“The facility’s close proximity to Barbour’s Cut terminal and the Port of Houston has proven to be a strategic location for us and the timing couldn’t have been any better to take on the additional building,” Fahey said.
Jacobson is part of Des Moines, Iowa-based Jacobson Cos. Inc., a third party logistics company with more than 35 million square feet of warehouse space in 35 major markets across the United States.
The company is following in the footsteps of three other companies that recently leased 659,000 square feet of distribution space near the Port of Houston. Lease expansions were executed by International Distribution Corp., Frontier Logistics LP and United DC.
