CyrusOne, an enterprise data center co-location services provider, has announced plans to open a data center in San Antonio.
The new data center is being developed on 10 acres of land in the Westover Hills business park and will offer customers 20 megawatts of power, the company says. The facility is under construction and is expected to be completed and available for occupancy in the second quarter of 2012. Development costs were not disclosed.
The new data center will complete CyrusOne’s Texas expansion plans. The company, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cincinnati Bell (NYSE: CBB), already has facilities in Houston, Dallas and Austin.
“Over the past three years, we have been focused on creating the largest data center portfolio in the state of Texas and the expansion into San Antonio is a natural progression of this strategy,” says Gary Wojtaszek, president and CEO of CyrusOne.
The San Antonio facility will incorporate the economies of scale typically associated with “Web scale” data centers as well as the high availability, reliability and scalability demanded by enterprise companies, Wojtaszek says. In addition to being one of the most advanced data centers in the San Antonio area, the facility will also include Class A office space for lease. The data center will have 55,000 square feet of raised floor space and 30,000 square feet of office space for tenants.
The master-planned Westover Hills community is located near the intersection of Hyatt Resort Drive and State Highway 151 on the city’s far West Side.
