Pikotek Inc.   plans to close a Houston manufacturing facility and relocate part of the operation to west Houston and part to its headquarters facility in Wheat Ridge, Colo.

Approximately 35 people at the oil and gas services company will be laid off in phases beginning Dec. 12 as a result of the relocation, according to information the company provided to the Texas Workforce Commission    .

Pikotek is closing a facility it gained earlier this year when it acquired Houston-based Pipeline Seal & Insulator Inc., better known as PSI, said Scott Jeffrey, Pikotek’s U.S. sales manager. The facility to be shuttered is at 6525 Goforth St. south of downtown.

The gasket manufacturing operation at the Goforth plant will move to Pikotek’s facility near Denver, Jeffrey said. The remaining local operation that provides products and services to the oil and gas industry will relocate to a facility in west Houston at 6455 Clara Road. Total employee numbers were not disclosed.

Pikotek will take over some space at the Clara Road facility from a sister company, Plastomer Technologies. Both companies are part of EnPro Industries Co.

Some Pikotek employees will relocate to Colorado and west Houston, some will retire and some will receive job placement assistance, Jeffrey said.

The move will allow for facility improvements and streamlining of manufacturing activities, he said.

The relocation is expected to be completed by mid-2012.
