IKEA announced plans Wednesday to grow its store in Round Rock by 54,000 square feet.
The store will expand to 306,900 square feet from the original 252,000 square feet at the time of opening in November 2006.
Construction will begin this month and should be completed by summer 2012. The store will remain open and operational during the expansion.
IKEA did not disclose the amount it plans to spend on the project.
The project will include extending the self-serve furniture area where shoppers collect flat-packed furniture to take home, also relocating customer service, an IKEA spokeswoman said.
The expansion also includes building a three-level parking deck.
The extension will blend into the existing structure so the store can maintain the unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide, company officials said.
