Santikos Theatres has acquired 20 acres in Richmond to develop its second movie-theater complex in the Houston area.
The San Antonio-based movie-house chain, which already has a theater near Tomball, will build a 22-screen entertainment complex called Palladium. Santikos says the movie theaters will include amenities that are not currently available in the Houston market, but would not provide additional information.
The theater’s design team is being led by TK Architects of Kansas City, and the general contractor is VCC Contractors.
The project is scheduled to break ground this month in the Long Meadow Farms residential community, located on the Grand Parkway at the intersection of West Bellfort. Santikos will be part of a new 90-acre mixed used development within the 1,400-acre community that will include retail and office space as well as high-density residential units.
Santikos Theatres was founded in 1915 by local businessman Louis Santikos. His son John continues to lead the family-owned business.
Santikos operates eight movie theaters, including seven in San Antonio, with a total of 106 screens.
