Recycling company Balcones Resources Inc. broke ground today on its new $20 million plant in Northeast Austin.
The facility at 9301 Johnny Morris Road is set to open in fall 2012. It’s on a 10-acre site and will be able to process 25 tons of residential and commercial recyclables per hour.
At the ceremony today were Balcones CEO Kerry Getter, Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell, Travis County Judge Sam Biscoe and Austin’s director of Solid Waste Services, Bob Gedert.
Balcones handles a large portion of the city’s commercial recycling, and in April 2011, the city awarded the company a 20-year contract to process 60 percent of residential curbside recycling material.
