Mazak Corp. will open its new Houston Southwest Technology Center and regional headquarters on June 14.
The 30,000-square-foot facility is in North Houston at Beltway 8 and Green Grossing Boulevard near George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
It will specialize in machine tool solutions for the energy and oil and gas services sectors. Dana Scott will manage the facility.
Florence, Ky.-based Mazak has had a presence in Houston for 30 years, saidBrian Papke, president of Mazak, in an interview Friday.
The company, owned by Japanese machine tool builder Yamazaki Mazak Corp., has changed its concept from strictly selling machines to selling solutions, he said.
“Houston has been a wonderful market for us,” he said. “This new facility is us stepping up our long-term commitment to the area.”
Papke would not disclosed how much the company was investing in the facility, but did say he expected to add about 15 new jobs. About 30 employees already work for the company in Houston.
