The Houston Dynamo are making progress on their new downtown stadium and are allowing fans to view the construction live on a Web cam.

Prime contractor Manhattan Construction Co. had been slated to pour the stadium’s concrete foundations Thursday but the heavy downpour delayed that work.

Despite that small setback, Houston Dynamo President Chris Canetti said the team may be a little ahead of schedule in the construction process.

The 22,000-seat stadium a few blocks from Minute Maid Park and SH59 is scheduled to open in spring 2012.

“The dry weather has helped our guys a lot,” he said. “They’ve been out there seven days a week and we’ve made a ton of progress over the last month.”

Canetti said the team’s crew has already mass excavated two to three feet of earthand are digging the hole where the lower seating bowl will be located.

Fans can view the progress of the stadium by clicking here.

Located atop a building on Texas St., the camera is powered by EarthCam and provides an elevated view of the construction site from its north side.

“We launched that last week and the fans love it,” Canetti said. “We’ve seen a lot of traffic on the site and it’s a good way for fans to keep up with what we’re doing.”

Manhattan Construction has engaged other Houston-area companies to work on the $77-million project.
