PBK has developed a master plan for the Houston Humane Society that includes a new animal hospital.
A site plan for the 4.5-acre project was recently approved, and construction will begin once building funds are raised by the non-profit organization.
The Houston Humane Society, which finds families for unwanted pets, currently has a 9-acre complex at 14700 Almeda Rd. The society has purchased 4.5 acres across Almeda from its existing location for a 57,000-square-foot animal hospital designed by Houston-based PBK, a planning and design firm. The medical center will include dormitories for veterinary students.
The proposed building will add five times the amount of space the society currently has, and increase the number of animals that can be housed each year.
When construction of the hospital is finished, the existing property will be redesigned to include a learning center and expanded park space where visitors can spend time with the animals.
