Grocer Traders Joe's — which recently announced that it's scouting locations in Dallas — could be looking to move in the former Borders Books location at Preston and Royal, according to real estate sources.
There are three interested parties in that location — Trader Joe's, Fresh Market and Central Market, said Kerby Smith, senior vice president of development with Fort Worth-based Trademark Property Company, the firm marketing that retail shopping center.
One of those grocers will make an announcement in the next few days, he said. He declined further comment.
Another real estate source has confirmed a natural grocer has signed on to that space.
Borders Group Inc. decided to close the store location, along with 200 other retail locations nationwide, after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February.
Local real estate professionals previously said they were not worried about the two Dallas Borders locations that closed, saying both are prime retail real estate locations and would be picked up quickly.
