Construction has started on a $9.1 million expansion and renovation of the Women's Pavilion at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center.
The initiative includes a 9,413-square-foot women’s services addition. It's expected to take nine months to complete.
The renovation and expansion will result in six additional labor-and-delivery suites for a total of 13, and larger family waiting rooms, medical staff and nursing staff work space, and cesarean recovery and support areas. The second floor will be dedicated to hospital services for babies, new moms and mothers-to-be.
More than 3,000 babies have been born at Methodist Mansfield since the hospital opened five years ago.
“By expanding our facilities we will enhance our ability to provide unparalleled clinical care for obstetric services, including high-risk moms and babies, in a patient-centered modern environment,” Methodist Mansfield President Laura Irvine said.
The women’s pavilion at Methodist Mansfield currently has seven private labor-and-delivery suites, an eight-bed neonatal intensive care unit, 36 postpartum rooms and two operating suites for cesareans or other surgical procedures.
Methodist Mansfield was designed to accommodate growth. RTKL Associates Inc. was the original architect for the hospital, oversaw a $36 million expansion in 2008, and will oversee this expansion as well. General contractor Austin Commercial began the expansion and renovation in March.
