A Sterling Construction Co. Inc. joint venture was awarded a $207.3 million contract to design and build a portion of the planned 6.2-mile Manor Expressway, the company announced on Thursday.
The Central Texas Regional Mobility's project in northeast Austin will create a flyover connection and six-lane toll road in the median of U.S. 290 from U.S. 183 to Parmer Lane. The total project will cost about $600 million and is partially paid for through federal stimulus dollars.
Work on the $200 million flyover broke ground last March. Traffic in that area has increased more than 78 percent since 1990. The project is slated for completion in 2013.
Texas Sterling Construction Co., a Sterling (NasdaqGS: STRL) subsidiary, was picked to complete another portion of the project in a joint venture with Webber LLC. Work will begin about a month and a half after bonds are sold, which is expected in May.
