The number of Harris County properties that fell into foreclosure in January was significantly less than in December.
A total of 837 properties went back to lenders at the Jan. 4 foreclosure auction, a 32.6 percent decrease from the 1,241 properties that were foreclosed on in December, according to Foreclosure Information & Listing Service Inc. of The Woodlands.
The January activity also represents a nearly 41 percent decline from the 1,412 foreclosures that occurred in January 2010.
The number of properties posted for foreclosure took a dip this month, too, but not by as much.
Foreclosure Information reports there were 4,198 foreclosure postings in January, down 11 percent from 4,719 properties listed for foreclosure in December, which nearly reached the record of 4,773 postings logged in October 1987.
In comparison, 4,333 properties were posted for foreclosure in January 2010, down 3.1 percent from this month’s total.
