The San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan area lost 300 construction jobs during the month of November, according to an employment report by Associated General Contractors of America.
Construction employment in the San Antonio area totaled 45,500 in November 2010, down from 45,800 jobs in November 2009. This represents a 1 percent reduction in jobs.
Nationwide, construction employment either increased or remained steady in 120 out of 337 metropolitan markets, which is an improvement for the industry.
Officials with Associated General Contractors say the national employment picture is improving in large part to federal stimulus funding and military construction.
“It is good to see the construction industry finishing the year on a relatively positive note,” says Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist. “But even if the industry is no longer on the brink, it is still a long way from recovering.”
