Developers in Flower Mound broke ground today on an 84,000-square-foot medical office building in The River Walk at Central Park development.

The three-story building, which will be attached to the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Flower Mound, is scheduled to be completed in fall 2011. It's being developed by Dallas-based Rainier Medical Investments.

The Flower Mound Town Council approved development of the building Nov. 8.

The building is the first part of a project that will include two additional buildings of 60,000 and 15,000 square feet, with a combination of medical office and retail space. Construction on the other buildings is expected to start next year.

The medical park is expected to attract medical tenants in the specialty areas of oncology, urology, cardiology, general surgery, colorectal and obstetrics/gynecology.

"The quality of this project is confirmation that the new hospital is quickly proving to be a viable anchor for our goal of making Flower Mound a medical destination," Flower Mound Mayor Melissa Northern said in a statement.

A 300-unit apartment project also will be part of the project, with groundbreaking planned for early next year. The apartment complex will be developed by Kansas City, Mo.-based Price Development Group LLC.
