University of Texas graduate Lisa McMahon was picked to lead The Real Estate Council as president.

The organization founded in 1990 represents 1,300 commercial real estate professionals with 500 Dallas area companies. McMahon was chosen for her more than 15 years experience in community development, as well as three decades worth of work in the financial industry.

She was selected by council Chairman Jim Berry, Chairman-Elect Mark Gibson of Holliday Fenoglio Fowler LP, former chairs Tony Dona of Thackeray Partners, Michele Wheeler of Jackson-Shaw and Will Mundinger of Goldman Sachs.

McMahon previously founded Neighborhood Strategies LLC, a specialty capital sourcing and complex financial structuring provider for affordable housing and community development projects. Prior to that venture, she was the southwest regional director of community development banking for JP Morgan Chase Bank.

She is past president of the Texas Affiliation of Affordable Housing Providers and a current member of The Dallas AssemblyLeadership Dallas Alumnae and The Texas Lyceum. She was actively involved with the Louisiana Recovery Authority in redevelopment initiatives after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. And she is a frequent speaker and panelist on economic development initiatives and affordable housing.

McMahon graduated from UT with a bachelor's in government.
