The Alamo Regional Mobility Authority awarded Williams Brothers Construction and Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. the design/build contract for the U.S. 281/Loop 1604 interchange in North San Antonio.

The total value of the construction is estimated at $109 million. The value of the design contract alone is $9.1 million. The purpose behind the project is to ease traffic congestion between U.S. Highway 281 and Loop 1604.

As part of the agreement, Jacobs will design eight direct connectors and Williams Brothers will construct the southern four direct connectors in the U.S. 281/Loop 1604 interchange. In all, the project includes nine bridges, four direct connectors and two pedestrian bridges. It also includes the design and modification of noise walls. This is the first design/build project executed by the Alamo Regional Mobility Authority (RMA).

“Jacobs is delighted to work with Williams Brothers Construction and the Alamo RMA on one of the largest federal stimulus transportation projects in Bexar County,” Jacobs Group Vice President Robert M. Clement says. “We look forward to assisting in implementing operational and safety enhancements while providing needed relief for this congested intersection.”

Pasadena, Calif.-based Jacobs (NYSE: JEC) is one of the world’s largest providers of technical, professional and construction services. The company has an office in San Antonio. Williams Brothers Construction is based in Houston.
