Baywood plans to develop a Home2 Suites Hotel within the property.
Home2 Suites is the latest brands by McLean, Va.-based hospitality chain Hilton Hotels & Resorts. The all-suite hotels are geared toward the value-conscious, extended-stay guest — namely those needing accommodations for 10 days or more.
Greenbelt, Md.-based Baywood will also manage the new hotel. Neither a purchase price nor development costs were disclosed.
Hilton officials will unveil more details of the San Antonio project at a news conference on Sept. 8. Also on hand for the event will be executives from Baywood and representatives of the San Antonio Conservation Society.
The South Texas Building spans a total of 91,522 square feet of space over 12 stories. The property dates back to 1919.
San Antonio marks the third Home2 Suites hotel location in the U.S. The first two — one in Salt Lake City and one in Fayetteville, N.C. — are slated to open next March.
The typical Home2 Suites hotel measures four stories and 56,668 square feet. The properties feature such amenities as a large expanded community space — known as The Oasis — outdoor living spaces and a fitness facility.
The rooms feature separate living and bedroom areas, fully accessorized kitchens and a 42-inch flat-screen TV. The rooms also have what Hilton describes as “hip and humble” brand artwork.
