The city is hosting a meeting this month for developers interested in bidding on work for an estimated $127.5 million community development project.

The Waller Creek Tunnel Project seeks to reclaim about 28 acres from the floodplain downtown using a 20- to 26-foot-wide stormwater bypass running a mile from Waterloo Park to discharge at Lady Bird Lake. The main tunnel project is expected to cost about $40 million. It is slated for completion in 2014.

The pre-bid gathering Sept. 22 is mandatory for any company interested in vying for work on the Waller Tunnel, except those coming in as subcontractors. The city is posting geotechnical cores from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day at the Bureau of Economic Geology JJ Pickle Research Campus at 10100 Burnet Road.

Scope of the work for bid includes: site work, hauling, ready-mix concrete, steel reinforcement of bars and rods, construction photography, demolition and excavation services. Plans are available for viewing at 4201 Ed Bluestein Blvd.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m. at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center.
