Seattle-based Amazon.com has chosen Phoenix over Lewisville for a 1-million-square-foot warehouse/distribution building, according to North Texas industrial real estate brokers close to the deal.
The Phoenix Business Journal reports that Amazon will open the west Phoenix location in October, creating several hundred jobs.
North Texas industrial brokers say that's the same deal that looked like it was headed into a 1.02 million-square-foot warehouse/distribution building at Majestic Airport Center DFW in Lewisville. The Lewisville facility is the largest new empty industrial building in North Texas. It's been vacant since construction was complete more than two years ago.
Amazon has not confirmed that the Phoenix distribution center is the same deal that considered Lewisville, and the leasing agent for Majestic Airport Center could not immediately be reached for comment. However, other local brokers familiar with the deal say it's one in the same.
