The Austin Texans Soccer Club was gifted three huge light towers that were used in construction of the W Austin Hotel and Residencies project.
Stratus Properties Inc. and the Canyon-Johnson Urban Fund were behind the donation. The lights are generator-powered and will allow the nonprofit, which is a division of Dallas Texans Youth Soccer, to hold evening practice.
“This type of gift to non-profit youth groups helps us to keep our costs low in order to allow as many youth as possible to participate in the sport of soccer," said soccer club President Dan Williams.
The W Austin and related mixed-use project, known as Block 21, is located downtown in the 2nd Street District. It will include 159 luxury residential units, 251 hotel guest rooms and suites, 17,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, 35,000 square feet of office space and a street-level plaza. Also, a state-of-the-art, live music venue will serve as the new home for the Austin City Limits series.
