Stream Data Centers’ new data facility in far West San Antonio has been officially designated an energy-efficient building.

Stream Data Centers is owned by Dallas real estate firm Stream Realty Partners LP, a full-service real estate investment, development and services company.

The company completed its data center facility in December 2009. The center consists of a 150,000-square-foot, structurally enhanced building with 9-inch thick concrete walls and a concrete roof system that’s able to withstand 175 mile-per-hour winds. The data center is also equipped with generators, cooling towers and fuel storage tanks to ensure that clients’ technology equipment remains operable during a disaster.

Even though the data center is a large structure that consumes massive amounts of electricity, the facility was built according to the U.S. Green Building Council’s environmentally sustainable design, construction and operation standards. Stream Data incorporated numerous key design elements into the facility that promoted conservation, including the use of recycled materials during construction and investments in systems for water efficiency, air quality and optimal energy performance.

The facility has access to recycled water from the San Antonio Water System and is served by two, 300 megawatt substations maintained by CPS Energy.

The data center received the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver Award. Stream Data Centers built the facility in the Westover Hills area of San Antonio. This area is home to several office and data center facilities owned by Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT), Lowe’s Cos. Inc. (NYSE: LOW), JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM), The Hartford Financial Services Group (NYSE: HIG), The Capital Group Cos., Frost Bank and Christus Health.
